After burglars broke into Justin Kluivert’s family house in Betera, Spain, the Valencia winger’s partner was assaulted and robbed.

The offenders took advantage of Kluivert’s absence by using the La Liga schedule, as the forward was in Palma getting ready for Thursday night’s match versus Mallorca.

Valencia Plaza claims that during the heist on Wednesday night, after they had returned home from walking their dogs, Kluivert’s partner was assaulted by the intruders.

The three burglars were successful in breaking into the home through the backyard.

As the robbers demanded to know where the valuables were in the home, the footballer’s wife was assaulted. The burglars, who Spanish news reports have referred to as “hooded,” made off with watches, jewelry, and apparel valued close to £138,000 (€160,000).

After the attack, Kluivert’s companion reportedly suffered from shock and minor injuries; the player has remained in Mallorca with the traveling team.

The robbery is part of a troubling Spanish trend where thieves analyze fixture lists to determine when players and coaches would be away from home, allowing them the chance to try and grab an empty property.
