Former NFL player Matt Ulrich, who was 41 years old when he passed away, was a 2006 Super Bowl champion with the Indianapolis Colts.

On Wednesday, November 8, Jim Irsay, the owner of the Colts, made Ulrich’s passing public. Despite the offensive guard’s brief tenure with the squad, he made an impression on everyone in the organization, he said.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of Matt Ulrich’s passing,” Irsay wrote in a poignant message. In his brief two seasons with us, Matt made a lasting impression on many.

“Amazing guy, I’ve heard he was a great Super Bowl champion and a great dad.” I’ll be praying for his family.

Before enrolling at Northwestern, Ulrich was a standout athlete at Streamwood High School in Illinois, where he won championships in shot throw and football.

The undrafted NFL player signed with Indianapolis in 2005, played in ten games throughout his career, and shared the championship with Peyton Manning and company at Super Bowl XLI.

In retirement, he went into business and founded a fitness company. Nearly $30,000 has been received in the last 18 hours for Ulrich’s family through a campaign that was organized in response to the athlete’s untimely death.
