Prof. Makau Mutua, a spokesman for Raila Odinga, a presidential candidate for the Kenya Alliance, has disclosed what William Ruto, a presidential contender for the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, said to his daughter June Ruto at his wedding last year.

June married the Nigerian-born Dr. Alexander Ezenagu in May of last year.

Ruto’s private home in Karen hosted the invitation-only wedding ceremony.

On Saturday, Mutua disclosed that Ruto had told his daughter on the auspicious day that she wasn’t her husband’s equal and had to submit to him at all times.

“The advise Mr. Ruto offered to his daughter on her wedding day one year ago will be remembered by the nation. Unbelievably, he informed her that she wasn’t her husband’s equal and that she had to submit to him at all times, according to Prof. Makau.

He questioned DP Ruto’s counsel to his daughter over the constitutionality of gender equality.

The value of DP Ruto’s counsel to his daughter to Kenyan women and girls has also been questioned by him.

“I was perplexed. What became of gender parity? Isn’t this issue covered in our Constitution? What is Mr. Ruto saying to Kenyan women and girls? Mutua enquired.
