On Monday, October 16, Palestinians in besieged Gaza packed into hospitals and schools, seeking shelter and running low on food and water.

More than a million Palestinians have fled their homes in preparation for an expected Israeli ground invasion aimed at eliminating Hamas after its fighters ravaged southern Israel.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are reportedly living on less than one liter of water per day in UN facilities.

Hospitals have warned that they are on the point of collapsing, with emergency generators that power machinery like ventilators and incubators running out of fuel and pharmaceutical supplies nearly depleted.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 2,750 Palestinians have been dead and 9,700 have been injured since the combat began, which is more than in the previous six-week Gaza conflict. As a result, this is the bloodiest of the five Gaza conflicts for both sides.

More than 1,400 Israelis have died, the great majority of whom were civilians, in Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack. The Israeli military claimed Monday that at least 199 hostages had been returned to Gaza, a figure that was higher than prior estimates.

More than a million Palestinians, nearly half of the territory’s population, have been forced by Israel to evacuate Gaza City and the surrounding area for the enclave’s south. The military claims to be clearing people before of a big battle against Hamas in the north, where it claims the militants have huge tunnel networks and missile launchers.
