Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood believes Manchester United has regressed under current boss Erik ten Hag.

Sherwood also chastised defender Raphael Varane for providing little value to the club since joining from Real Madrid in 2021.

“Basically, under Ten Hag, they’re buying a bunch of superstars and hoping they perform.” They don’t have a distinct playing style.” Sherwood spoke to Metro UK.

“I see no patterns or structure.” All I see is a group of guys being thrown onto the field, seeing where they land, and hope one of the superstars pulls you out of the mire, which is exactly what has happened.

“Casemiro… Varane got away with that since he hasn’t done anything since joining that football club. We talk about (Bukayo) Saka when people say, ‘continuous games, he needs a rest, he needs a rest’, but this lad (Varane) goes in and out; he’s injured again, I think there’s no durability there, and what has he done for Manchester United? There are much too many of them, in my opinion.”

“But we’re fine getting on Harry Maguire’s back.” We’ll poke him a little, but he’ll go there, give everything, and front it up.” He went on to say

Varane has appeared in 70 games for Manchester United in various competitions.

During his decade with Real Madrid, he established himself as one of the top center-backs in the world.

Before joining United, the Frenchman won 18 major championships, including three La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League trophies.

In the last two seasons, he has missed 39 games for United due to injuries.
