The confrontation between Israel and Hamas has reached a heinous milestone, with over 10,000 people killed in Gaza in the four weeks since it began.

On Monday, November 6, the Gaza Ministry of Health stated that over 10,000 people had been killed, the majority of them were women and children, in the battle that began about a month ago when Hamas stormed multiple Israeli villages, murdering 1,400 people and kidnapping around 240 people on October 7.

Israeli forces launched an aggressive reaction, including an air and ground invasion of Gaza, with the ultimate goal of destroying Hamas.

According to Israel, over 340 Israeli soldiers have killed since the Oct. 7 strikes.

According to Israel’s military, Israeli forces arrived on Gaza’s coast on Sunday, dividing the besieged territory in half and effectively closing off the north from the south.

“In the last 12 hours, the soldiers of the division struck around 50 targets, including combat zones, operational residences, outposts, military positions and underground infrastructure, and eliminated terrorists in close-quarter combat,” the U.S. military stated.

For several hours, phone, 4G cellular networks, and internet services were unavailable in Gaza. The networks appeared to be partially recovered by Monday morning local time.

Israeli bombs have been dropped on refugee camps. According to health officials in the region, an attack on the Maghazi refugee camp early Sunday killed at least 33 people and injured scores more.

In a rare united statement, the chiefs of the UN’s major humanitarian agencies and international charities urged for a “immediate humanitarian ceasefire” in Gaza, calling the situation “horrible” and “unacceptable.”

The leaders of OCHA, UNICEF, the World Food Programme, the WHO, Save the Children, and CARE International were among those who signed.

“An entire population is besieged and under attack, denied access to basic necessities, bombed in their homes, shelters, hospitals, and places of worship,” they stated. This is intolerable.”
