Bill Kenwright, chairman and largest shareholder of Everton Football Club in England, died at the age of 78.

On Tuesday, October 24, the club declared on its website that it was grieving the passing of its long-term chairman, who died away on Monday evening.

“The club has lost a chairman, a leader, a friend, and an inspiration,” according to the statement.

“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Everton are with his partner Jenny Seagrove, his daughter Lucy Kenwright, grandchildren and everybody who knew and loved him.”

Kenwright joined Everton’s board in 1989 and became deputy chairman a decade later after purchasing a majority stake in the club.

He had been chairman of Everton for nearly two decades.

Kenwright was diagnosed with liver cancer in early August and had emergency surgery to remove a malignant tumor about a fortnight ago.

Kenwright agreed to stay on the board of Everton earlier this year at the request of owner Farhad Moshiri in order to support the club through a transition time.

Last month, Moshiri, who originally invested in Everton in 2016, agreed to sell the club to 777 partners.

The transaction is currently pending regulatory approval.
