A family in Ohio, USA, is mourning the death of their two-year-old son, who escaped while his mother was sleeping and drowned in a neighbor’s pool.
According to investigators, the tiny kid escaped the house on October 4 as his mother was sleeping. He was eventually discovered in the bottom of his neighbor’s pool and was sent to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Just an hour before the boy was discovered, police were summoned to the area for a toddler left unsupervised. They warned the boy’s mother to be more cautious.
Marcus Anthony Hall, popularly known as Mar Mar, was remembered by the boy’s father for his smile.
‘He was a wonderful little dude,’ Anthony Hall, the child’s father, said of his two-year-old son, who had just turned two in July.
Marcus and his four-year-old brother were at home alone with their mother on Tuesday, October 3.
He claimed the children went outside their home in Oregon, Ohio, while their mother was sleeping.
At 10.34am, a neighbour observed one of the boys and contacted 911, telling dispatchers: ‘There’s a baby outdoors with only a diaper chasing a dog. ‘There are no adults.’
When an officer arrived, he warned the mother to be more cautious. He advised her to think about putting safety equipment.
Oregon police got a second call from the mother at 11.27 a.m., less than an hour later.
‘I was woken up by cops pounding on my door because they said kids were running around outside, so when I woke up, just my 4-year-old was here,’ she explained.
‘So your two-year-old is missing?’ inquired the dispatcher.
‘Yeah,’ said the woman.
Officers arrived to the site and discovered the two-year-old drowning in the pool of a neighbor.
Marcus died after falling into a white above-ground pool with a little staircase. While the yard was fenced in, there was no fence surrounding the pool.
A complaint was made with the city because, according to Ohio state law, every private swimming pool must be surrounded by a fence. It is yet unknown whether charges have been brought against the mother or the neighbor.
According to authorities, Children Services is looking into the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
The funeral will be held on October 10.
