Napoli are allegedly interested in signing Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus as a replacement for Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen played a key role in the Italian club’s first Serie A triumph in 33 years last season, leading the league scoring charts with 26 goals. However, his future at the club is thought to be in doubt following a fight over the club’s TikTok account.
Osimhen was the subject of two abusive videos shared on the famous social networking app, the first of which mocked his missed penalty last month. The second then referred to him as a “coconut,” which has been interpreted as a racist slur.
In the aftermath of the controversy, his agent threatened to sue the Serie A club, and Napoli responded by asserting that no offense was intended and failing to apologize. Napoli’s social media executive has now left the company.
The incident has opened the door for Oismhen to leave in January, and Napoli appear to be looking for a replacement already.
According to Calciomercato, Rudi Garcia’s team has identified Jesus as a possible replacement, along with Lille’s Jonathan David and Atletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.
