A foreign language instructor at a Church of England school was fired after refusing to teach ‘extreme’ LGBT topics

A Church of England school teacher was fired after she refused to give ‘extreme’ LGBT topics.

Glawdys Leger, 43, a modern foreign Languages teacher at Bishop Justus CofE School in Bromley, Kent, was fired in May 2022 after stating that she would not teach LGBT content to year seven students on the RE syllabus.

Ms Leger, who has been teaching at the school since 2017, said she was ‘handled like a dangerous criminal’ after she shared with kids her conviction that LGBT acts were wicked and that persons are born either male or female.

She was later reported to the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) after reports that she had disturbed one of her students with her opinions.

After a ‘fitness to practise’ hearing in Coventry on Monday, the 12-year teacher could face an indefinite ban from the profession.

Ms Leger was said to be particularly offended by introducing youngsters to the concept of gender identities, including pansexual, asexual, intersex, and transgender identities, as well as the promotion of Critical Race Theory and abortion.

The RE curriculum contained the idea that people could be “born in the wrong body,” as well as pushing kids to be “allies” to LGBT people.

Teachers were also compelled to watch the video ‘Fit,’ which featured millennials with protected qualities.

‘The impact of what has happened to me has taken a significant toll on me,’ Ms Leger said ahead of her hearing. The prospect of losing my job for sharing my Christian beliefs in response to student questions is heartbreaking.

‘I was regarded as if I were a criminal and a threat for expressing my Christian beliefs.

‘I have a lot of sympathy for LGBT people, especially those who are confused about their gender. I cannot, however, teach or say things that I believe are opposed to my faith, such as declaring that same-sex sexual relationships are good and/or embracing those who are gender confused.’

She went on to say that the Christian components of Bishop Justus were “just for show,” and that political and ethical ideals opposed to religious practice were promoted without parents’ knowledge.

‘Delivering a high-quality education and supporting pupils’ well-being is our top focus,’ said an Aquinas Church of England Education Trust spokeswoman.

‘To that end, as part of a comprehensive and balanced curriculum, we emphasize essential British values such as mutual respect and tolerance of persons of other religions and views. The school teaches in accordance with statutory duties to promote British values and adheres to applicable Department of Education recommendations.

‘Given the ongoing inquiry and the sensitivities involved, more comment would be inappropriate.’
