Mutuini Hospital, which is located in Dagoretti South Sub-County, will be renamed after First Lady Racheal Ruto, according to Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja.
Since the Kenya Kwanza government took office in September 2022, this will be the first building to bear the First Lady’s name.
Before the renaming, Governor Sakaja said his administration will modernize the Mutuini facility.
The Governor noted that some of the facilities constructed as part of the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) had not been outfitted, so this will also involve remodeling other medical facilities located within the county.
Governor Sakaja stated, “We will be bringing a motion to rename Mutuini Hospital to Mama Rachel Ruto Hospital Mutuini.
Mama Rachel Ruto will follow in the footsteps of her predecessors, who have health facilities named after them, if the motion is presented to the County Assembly and approved.
The Margaret Kenyatta Children Hospital in the Mathare-Korogocho slum bears the name of the recently-retired First Lady.
In Embakasi, there is also Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, a level-5 medical facility.
