Cleophas Malala, Secretary General of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), has disclosed that he would now serve in President William Ruto’s cabinet.
Malala, a former Kakamega County Senator, claimed in an interview with one of the local publications that his function will be to follow up on Cabinet decisions but not as a Cabinet Secretary.
“It will be my exclusive responsibility to ensure that we oversee the execution and implementation of our manifesto by the people selected to the Executive.
“I shall be sitting in the Cabinet to make a follow-up on the decisions made, but not as a Cabinet Secretary. The country already has 22 Cabinet Secretaries, but I can be co-opted into the Cabinet,” he explained.
The former lawmaker pointed out that the Cabinet might co-opt a member to attend meetings on behalf of the party.
“The Cabinet can choose a member to represent the party’s interests. “Our party will be present to ensure that the Kenya Kwanza agenda is followed to the letter,” Malala said.
He also stated that the party will evaluate the performance of Cabinet Secretaries and advise the President.
“We shall be obtaining surveys from our members on which Cabinet Secretary is working hard and which one they think is doing little.
“We will brief the President on the performance of Cabinet Secretaries, CEOs of state businesses, parastatals, and even members of the National Assembly and Senate,” he added.
