Wafula Chebukati, the chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has refuted suggestions that William Ruto and his cronies are in charge of his organization.
Chebukati stated that his panel is autonomous and that nobody, not even the Head of State, can influence it in remarks made on Thursday.
The panel was allegedly exploited by Ruto and his friends to taint the August poll, according to Raila Odinga and his supporters on Wednesday.
The role of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula was singled out by the Azimio leaders in particular. They said that he had connections to the Greek company Inform Lykos SA, which is in charge of printing ballots.
In contrast, Chebukati referred to the assertions as propaganda and advised Kenyans to disregard them in a statement.
“I want to make sure you understand that the IEBC is an entirely different entity. No specific person, constitution, or authority, in any way, shape, or form, is the source of our guidance. Our sole duty is to preserve the constitution, said Chebukati.
The IEBC has prepared for upcoming elections better than any before. We’re going to make sure that the process is public, and we’re going to hold credible, free, and fair elections in Kenya. This is our nation’s promise to you, Chebukati continued.
