William Ruto, the presidential candidate for the Kenyan Kwanza Alliance, has maintained his campaign claiming President Uhuru Kenyatta owes him the office, as the most recent dispute reveals the plots that led to their election in 2013 and reelection in 2017.
With only one month to the vote, Ruto looked back on the previous transition in 2013 to portray the Head of State as an unwilling and unappreciative leader who had abandoned his supporters to support his longtime rival and ally Mr. Raila Odinga in this year’s election.
Speaking in Meru county on Monday, Ruto recalled how he had pushed Mr. Odinga to run in the new election after he had successfully petitioned the Supreme Court to invalidate President Kenyatta’s reelection in 2017. He seemed to be emphasizing the portrayal of the Head of State that his camp has sought to project in the ongoing campaigns.
