In a fresh opinion survey conducted by Radio Africa Group, former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Democratic Movement candidate startled Azimio contender in Mombasa by defeating him.
Mike Sonko, a Wiper candidate in the Mombasa governor campaign, defeated Raila Odinga’s candidacy, Abdulswamad Nassir, by a large majority in the poll.
Residents of Mombasa were polled by Radio Africa to choose between Sonko, Abdulswamad, and Hassan Omar of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
With 45.6 percent, Sonko came out on top, followed by Abdulswamad with 31.5 percent. With 12.1 percent, Hassan Omar came in third. 4.7 percent stated they would not vote, while 5.4 percent said they were undecided. Other candidates received 0.7 percent of the vote.
This is a significant victory for Kalonzo Musyoka, who only two days ago quit Raila Odinga’s Azimio and announced his candidacy for president in August.
