Dr. Boni Khalwale, a senator for Kakamega County, expressed his desire for the ground to split open and consume him on Saturday after being jeered during a burial in the Navakholo Constituency.
After the senator began defending the ambitious intention of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance government to overtax Kenyans through the divisive Finance Bill 2023, he began to receive heckles from the crowd.
The heckling started after Khalwale attacked some of the leaders who spoke before him for misinforming the populace about taxes.
“On the subject of taxes, you should be aware that anyone informing you that they have gone up is misrepresenting the situation. Next month, the budget bill will be read. That is true, he declared.
The mob began constantly yelling “lies” as soon as he finished speaking.
Others urged him to return to his seat as they shouted, “Lies, you are lying,” from the crowd.
The Deejay had to start playing music to stop the escalating heckling.
Later, Khalwale would beg the DJ to stop the music so that he could continue speaking.
He remarked amid whispers, “I have to tell my people the truth so that they know where the nation is headed. I am the most senior leader in Kakamega.”
The mourners were persistent.
Even as he insisted on addressing them, shouts of “lies” continued.
“I concur that living expenses are very high right now. Even when the mourners stepped up their heckling, he said, “But what the leaders ought to be talking about is how they would fight to bring down the cost of living.
