A 34-year-old man named Wisdom Emmanuel has been charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting his daughter’s friend in his office. He was arraigned before the Magistrates’ Court.
Thomas Nurudeen, the police prosecutor, testified in court that the 34-year-old committed the crime on April 30, 2023, at 10am, in his office.
Nurudeen claims that the defendant attracted the young woman to his office where he sexually assaulted her.
He claims that the defendant went to the girl’s parents to request permission to take the girl to his daughter’s workplace, but instead brought her to his office where he allegedly forced her to remove her clothes and sexually assaulted her.
Nurudeen stated that Sections 141 and 137 of the Criminal Laws apply to the offense committed.
The statement read
“That you, Wisdom Emmanuel, did kidnap one 13-year-old girl, (name withheld), under the custody of her parents on April 30, 2023, at No. 46, Kusa Street, Bariga, Lagos state, in the Yaba Magisterial District, with the intent to have unlawful carnal knowledge of her, and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 141 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015,” reads the court document.
Nurudeen requested that the defendant be held in custody for 30 days until the Director of Public Prosecutions provides legal counsel.
The case was continued until June 19, 2023 after Magistrate Nwaka refused to accept the defendant’s plea and ordered that he be remanded.
