Japheth Koome, the inspector general of police, has disclosed how many protesters were detained at the Azimio One Kenya Alliance huge protest on Monday.
In the cities of Nairobi and Kisumu, angry mobs battled with police during the rally that Azimio leader Raila Odinga called for.
Koome claimed at a press conference on Tuesday that the commotion had hurt 31 police officers.
“We want to let the public know that during Monday’s protests, we made 25 arrests and seven cops were hurt in Nyanza. According to Koome, 24 police personnel and 10 police vehicles were hurt in Nairobi, and 213 people were detained.
On Tuesday, the majority of them were freed from detention after claiming they were being detained unlawfully.
The IG added that one male student from Maseno University had died during the Kisumu protests. He stated that the incident is still under investigation.
