Dr. Fred Matiang’i, the Interior Cabinet Secretary, has reassured Deputy President William Ruto that if he prevails in the August election, he will be sworn in as president.

This follows concerns expressed by Ruto and his allies over the president Uhuru Kenyatta’s transition committee.

The committee member Matiang’i informed the ambassadors that Uhuru was determined to transfer power peacefully to the President-elect following the elections on August 9 at a meeting with foreign delegates on Thursday.

He added that there were plans in place to guarantee peaceful elections and a seamless transfer of power.
