Felista Nyamathira Njoroge, a 23-year-old college student, has suffered a serious setback after the High Court permitted the government to seize a Sh 102 million love gift that was allegedly sent to her by her Belgian boyfriend.

The gift was proven to be the result of money laundering, and the court granted the government the right to keep the funds stored in Felista’s two cooperative bank accounts.

Felista’s boyfriend Marc De Mesel, who claims to be a YouTube crypto entrepreneur, refused to explain the source of the money, according to Justice Esther Maina.

She observed that, in the absence of an explanation, the state was profiting from the cash that the foreign crypto-personality had clandestinely sent into the nation.

She continued by stating that it was evident money laundering based on the evidence presented in court by both the state and the two lovers.

The source of the money that was transmitted to the Kenyan girlfriend, she determined after analyzing and reviewing the boyfriend’s proof, was not revealed.

She continued by saying that in the absence of disclosure of the source of the monies, money laundering is the most likely explanation.

She said that as a result, the court is powerless to refuse to order that the funds in the two bank accounts be turned over to the state.

After her financial accounts were frozen by the government in 2021, Nyamathira gained notoriety.

She claimed that the State Criminal Investigation Department had mistreated her by withholding the Sh102 million that had been handed to her for her own use.
