According to reports, the FA will ask FIFA to extend Ivan Toney’s eight-month suspension from football to all countries, preventing the Brentford and England striker from traveling to play.

Toney was given a two-thirds year sentence on Wednesday after the England international acknowledged to breaking 232 betting laws.

Although at the moment this rule only applies to English football, Sky Sports reports that The FA will request that FIFA make Toney’s sentence a global sanction, preventing the 27-year-old from moving on loan to get around the ban.

It is anticipated that the FA would formally request FIFA’s endorsement of Toney’s penalty on a global scale. However, the FA might also bring up the issue in the event of a loan or sale because FIFA would need to obtain The FA’s cooperation in providing a player’s registration.

FIFA would typically consider the situation, but there is no precedent instance of them declining to impose a global suspension of this kind.

The Brentford player was fined £50,000 and given an eight-month suspension earlier this week by an independent disciplinary panel.

Toney will not participate in any football-related activities prior to January 16, 2024, and he won’t be able to practice with the Bees again until September, thus he will miss the club’s preseason.

The wagers were made between February 2017 and January 2021, during his time at Scunthorpe United on loan, as well as his time at Wigan Athletic, Peterborough United, and Brentford, which he joined in August 2020.
