More than two weeks after the plane carrying them crashed in a Colombian forest, four kids have been discovered alive.
Children of four, nine, and thirteen years old, as well as an 11-month-old infant, were among those saved.
Seven persons were aboard the Cessna 206 when it issued a mayday call owing to engine trouble on May 1 in the wee hours.
President Gustavo Petro praised the development as “a joy for the country” and claimed the finding came after “arduous searching” by the military.
The impact killed three persons, including the pilot, whose bodies were discovered inside the aircraft.
The children may have escaped the plane and ventured into the rainforest in search of assistance, according to preliminary information from the Colombian aviation authority, which coordinated the rescue operations.
Rescuers had previously discovered leftover fruit that the kids had eaten to survive as well as makeshift shelters fashioned of forest vegetation with the help of sniffer dogs.
The rescue efforts involved both army and air force aircraft and helicopters from Colombia.
