According to the World Health Organization (WHO), infertility affects one in six persons globally.

Both men and women can have infertility, which is a reproductive condition characterized by the inability to conceive after 12 months or more of frequent, unprotected sexual activity.

According to a report released on Tuesday, April 4 and signed by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, from 1990 to 2021, all relevant studies on infertility were examined. The findings showed that 17.5% of adult population will experience infertility at some point in their lives.

According to Ghebreyesus, the rates are “comparable” for high-, middle-, and low-income nations.

The findings makes clear a crucial fact: infertility does not discriminate.

“The sheer number of affected people highlights the need to increase access to fertility care and ensure that this issue is no longer marginalized in health research and policy so that there are safe, effective, and affordable ways to achieve parenthood.”

Despite the fact that infertility is common, the survey also showed that in vitro fertilization (IVF) and other types of therapy are still underfunded.
