Less than two weeks remain until the general election on August 9th, and Deputy President William Ruto has been dealt a significant blow.
After Alfred Mutua’s deputy abandoned him and the Kenya Kwanza alliance in favor of Raila Odinga’s Azimio, this is what happened.
Francis Maliti, who was running to replace Mutua on the Maendeleo Chap Chap ticket under Kenya Kwanza, withdrew his name from consideration and endorsed Wavinya Ndeti of the Wiper Party.
Azimio la Umoja benefits from the decision because Raila Odinga’s campaigns will now receive support in Machakos County and the greater Eastern region thanks to the deputy governor.
Maliti endorsed Raila, the head of the Azimio party, and the Wiper party.
A settlement was negotiated when the two convened at Wiper Command Center.
Along with other party officials like the Secretary-General and Kathiani MP Robert Mbui, Kalonzo attended the meeting.
Following his running mate Rose Wambua’s Sunday decision to leave him, Maliti made his move.
Wambua declared that the Machakos deputy governor had lost her support because she was “going nowhere.”
She is supporting Nzioka Waita, a former State House chief of staff.
