Amason Kingi, the governor of Kilifi, appears to be thinking about leaving William Ruto’s Azimio party to join Raila Odinga’s.

This follows his most recent actions, where despite being the only principal from the Coast region, he was glaringly absent from the Kenya Kwanza campaigns.

Kingi, who normally would have welcomed Deputy President William Ruto and opened the rallies, was not present during Ruto’s most recent trips to Mombasa and Kilifi counties.

No mention of an apology from the Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) leader or his group was made during the rallies. Candidates for the PAA also staged a no-show at the rallies, sparking rumors.

The pattern began when Ruto travelled to the Bomas of Kenya alone to receive approval from IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, leaving Kingi as the only Kenya Kwanza principal who did not go with him.

When the DP visited Kilifi yesterday with stops in Mtwapa and Kikambala, the governor of that county did not send a delegation.

Kingi posted a picture of himself posing with a PAA campaign vehicle covered in products bearing the Azimio logo to fuel rumors.

The majority of PAA candidates did not revamp their campaign materials after the party left the Raila coalition and joined Kenya Kwanza, which prompted questions about the pattern.

George Kithi, the party’s nominee for governor in Kilifi, has kept up billboards with the recognizable “R” symbol that is used to promote Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
