Two individuals have been detained in connection with the recent armed attacks against defenseless residents in the counties of Kakamega, Vihiga, and Uasin-Gishu.

After a high-speed pursuit that ended at the river Lwatingu, detectives from the prestigious Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau apprehended the culprits in Kakamega. The primary suspect was apprehended before he dove into the river’s waters to flee punishment.

Before making their last move, which also resulted in the recovery of a handgun, the sleuths had been searching the streets and numerous bars of Kakamega while posing as mukombero and jua kali traders for the culprit.

The savage suspects Patrick Mangale, 30, and Denis Indeche, 24, who were responsible for multiple violent robberies in Kakamega, attacked a senior DCI officer on April 9 and repeatedly cut him in the skull until he was unconscious and covered in blood.

Around 3 am, the officer assigned to DCI Kakamega North had just returned from a mission in Nairobi and was at his home when he was confronted by the thugs outside his gate. They attacked him with a machete, giving him numerous serious slashes on his head, and then took his Jericho pistol, which had 15 rounds in it, and fled into the shadows.

The thieves gave up using the machete in favor of the stolen gun and went on a robbery rampage, focusing on Mpesa stores and gas stations. The pair launched an attack at the Aziz gas station in the Shibuli retail center on April 11 at about 9:30 pm, and they made off with an unspecified sum of money.

A gold trader in Lwanugu village was attacked two days later by the suspects, who fled with Sh55,000, 8 grams of gold, cellphones, and other valuables. Following their command for everyone at the gold mining site to lay down and remain quiet, this is what happened. The incident didn’t result in any injuries.

Another incident occurred on April 20 at around 10 p.m. when the armed thugs broke into a Mpesa store at Mudete Market in Maragoli and fled with cash and cellphones.

The criminals who were fortunate enough to escape several police dragnets went to Uasin Gishu County where they continued their operations targeting stores and other enterprises after sensing that investigators had initiated a manhunt for them in Western Kenya.

Two unarmed citizens were shot in the hands and legs during one of the incidents when thugs broke into a store at the Elgon View estate in Eldoret and fled with money.

After Patrick Mangale, the primary suspect, was taken into custody, he directed our police to a bathroom at his property in Lower Tingu, Mugulu district, where they found the gun—loaded with two 9mm rounds—hidden in a pit latrine. The red motorcycle with the plate number KMGG 124M that the detectives also seized is thought to have served as the gang’s escape vehicle.

The accused are currently being questioned by detectives at the Kakamega police station as guests of the state in order to learn more about their operations.
