For killing a guy who had assaulted and raped her at her home two years prior, a young woman in Mexico has been sentenced to six years in prison.

When Roxana Ruiz murdered her assailant in 2021, the court agreed that she was acting in self-defense but criticized her for using excessive force.

The 23-year-old lady sought to dismember the man’s body after first knocking him out cold.

Before placing the body in a plastic bag on the sidewalk, she kept it for at least 20 hours.

In determining the lady’s sentence, the court claimed to have taken into account her “vulnerability as a woman and as an indigenous person.”

According to Roxana Ruiz’s counsel, she will appeal the judgment, which was rendered by Judge Mónica Osorio in Mexico.

She remarked after the court session, “I feel sad and disappointed in (the) justice (system), they locked me up for nine months, and they give me a sentence.” “I would have been the one dead if I hadn’t defended myself.”

Angel Carrera, her attorney, worries that if Osorio’s decision is upheld, it may create “a bad precedent” going forward.

It’s telling women that they can only protect themselves up to a certain limit, according to the law, he claimed. He raped you, yet you have no right to take legal action.

Ruiz “could have given him a blow to the head to defend herself and leaving him unconscious would have been enough,” Judge Osorio said in support of her sentence.

She also mandated that Ruiz give Sinai Cruz’s family $16,000 in restitution.

On May 8, 2021, the 23-year-old single mother was enjoying a drink with a friend at a local bar when she encountered Cruz as she was leaving.

Cruz volunteered to walk her home, but when he realized it was too late and his house was too far away, he urged she let him stay the night.

Ruiz agreed and gave Cruz a blanket to sleep on after he insisted on being allowed to stay in her bedroom. Cruz assaulted and sexually assaulted Ruiz at one point, but the latter fought back by striking Cruz in the face before choking him to death with a shirt.

Ruiz told the policeman on patrol that she had been raped, but he nonetheless brought her into arrest when she pulled Cruz’s body out into the street and into a bag.

After being imprisoned for nine months on homicide charges, Ruiz was granted conditional release in advance of the trial.

She claimed that a police officer informed her that she wanted to have sex with Cruz before backing out, accusing them of forcing her to repeat the horrific incident. Additionally, she said that they consistently refused to provide her access to a medical examination that would have supported her allegations against Cruz.

Ruiz expressed regret for her conduct in a 2022 interview with The Associated Press, but insisted that there was nothing she could have done to avoid dying.

It is obvious that the state intends to silence us, make us submit, keep us inside, and kill us, she stated.
