After being pursued by paparazzi in New York, Prince Harry, his bride Meghan Markle, and her mother got into a “near catastrophic” automobile pursuit.
The altercation happened following the pair’s attendance at the Women of Vision Award presentation in New York on May 16’s Tuesday evening.
According to a spokeswoman for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, “Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Ms. Ragland were involved in a nearly fatal car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi,” Reuters said.
The spokesperson issued a statement stating, “This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in numerous near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians, and two NYPD (New York Police Department) officers.”
“While having a certain level of public interest comes with being a public figure, it should never come at the expense of anyone’s safety. Given how these photographs were collected, their dissemination supports a practice that is extremely intrusive and hazardous for all parties involved.
Prince Harry attended the occasion for the first time since the coronation of his father, King Charles. At the ceremony, Meghan Markle was not there.
Meghan Markle urged women to find motivation to fight for equity after accepting the award.
“Starting is never too late. You have the power to create the life you want. There is still a ton of work to be done, she declared.
Looking over at the co-founder of the foundation, Gloria Steinem, she continued, “I am a woman who continues to be inspired and propelled by this institution.
She continued, “I was able to realize that speaking up for those who felt ignored, standing up against injustice, and not being afraid to say what is true, just, and right were all parts of my broader value and purpose in life.
In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan left their positions as members of the royal family and moved to the US.
