A private plane carrying Tanzanian music icon Diamond Platnumz arrived in the nation on Saturday to take part in Azimio’s final rally in Kasarani.
After prominent Kenyan artists lead by Juliani criticized the Azimio brigade of neglecting to encourage homegrown talent, his performance triggered a contentious discussion on social media.
It has just come to light that a Tanzanian tycoon who finances Azimio leader Raila Odinga also funded Diamond’s performance.
The singer reportedly received $100,000 (Sh 11.9 million) for a 10-minute performance, according to reliable sources.
This indicates that during the thrilling performance, he made Sh 1.2 million every minute.
As Raila makes his fifth attempt at the presidency, Diamond’s performance was intended to appeal to young voters.
Three weeks ago, Diamond and the organizers of the final rally started talking.
Hassan Joho, the outgoing governor of Mombasa, is said to have played a significant role in the negotiations.
At the event, Femi One, a female rapper from Kenya, also performed.
It has come to light that she was only paid Ksh 50,000.
