In Turkey, a young woman apparently underwent gastric band surgery but passed away.

On April 1, Shannon Bowe, 28, passed away in Denny, a town close to Falkirk, Scotland.

Shannon reportedly traveled to Turkey to have the weight-loss operation.

It is unknown where she had the operation, how complicated it was, or how she passed away.

According to the NHS, gastric band surgery entails the placement of a gastric band around the top of the stomach, forming a tiny pouch.

When the patient eats, the little pouch fills up faster than the patient’s stomach would ordinarily, causing them to feel satisfied with less food. Patients are reportedly helped by the process to eat less and more slowly in order to reduce weight.

Her devastated family members have paid tribute to her on social media.

Ross Stirling, her lover, sent her a message saying, “Sleep tight my angel, love you forever and always.”

“My lovely niece Shannon, there are no words, just pain and grief,” her aunt Amanda Bowe wrote on Facebook.

Life may be really harsh. She was a stunning, hilarious, and eccentric girl who will always have a special place in my heart.

“You are dearly missed,”

Shannon was referred to be “the brightest spirit in the pub” by a friend, Clare-Louise Farrell.

“Such a sad time to learn of the demise of such a beautiful young person, Shannon Bowe,” reads the tribute.

“Whether it was in the bar or when I saw you at work, you always had the best spirit.

Even the darkest of days were brightened by your contagious smile.

“Sorry to see the news of Shannon Bowe. Thoughts with all friends and family,” another friend wrote on Facebook.

A representative for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office stated: “We are in contact with and helping the family of a British national who passed away in Turkey.
