Police have detained Madeline Kingsbury’s ex-boyfriend, who is also the father of her children, on suspicion of murder more than two months after she disappeared.

Adam Fravel, 29, was detained on second-degree murder charges on June 7 at night, weeks after he had maintained his innocence in relation to her abduction, according to police.

Kingsbury’s aunt, Rebecca Jacobson, said in a statement to Fox News Digital that the “family believes the right person is in custody and holding out hope that we’re going to find Madeline.”

About 45 miles south of the location where Kingsbury was last seen alive, police reported finding human remains in the brush off Highway 43 north of Mabel, Minnesota, United States.

The Winona Police Department claims that the body was found utilizing the information gathered throughout their investigation.

The agency said in a statement that “as a result, law enforcement personnel have arrested Adam Fravel on probable cause in connection with her disappearance.”

According to the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, efforts are being made to determine whether or not Kingsbury’s remains are present.

After leaving off her two children, ages 5 and 2, at their daycare in Winona with Fravel on March 31, Kingsbury, a 26-year-old Minnesotan mother, vanished.

Her disappearance was characterized by the police as “involuntary and suspicious.”

When Fravel returned from leaving their home at 10 a.m., Kingsbury wasn’t there, but her phone, wallet, and jacket were. Police said he was the last person to see her alive.

In addition, authorities said that they have executed “numerous search warrants” after more than 2,000 volunteers joined the search for the missing mother.

Former Dakota County chief deputy attorney Phil Prokopowicz, a special prosecutor, was recalled from retirement to assist with the case last month.

The children with Fravel, who filed for custody after their mother fled, are also the subject of a contentious custody dispute between Kingsbury’s family and Fravel.

Although they are legally in Winona County’s custody, the two children are currently living with Kingsbury’s parents.

Megan, the sister of the missing mother, previously told Fox News Digital that despite their attempts to speak with Fravel and his family, they remained mute.

Kingsbury and Fravel were no longer dating when she vanished.
