At the age of 32, Eden Hazard is expected to retire from sport after opting out of his £400,000 per week Real Madrid contract.

A year before the expiration of his contract, the Belgian forward concluded his time at the Santiago Bernabeu and called it quits on his Real Madrid career.

After Belgium’s disastrous 2022 World Cup campaign, the 32-year-old has already announced the end of his international career.

According to Spanish news reports, the former Chelsea star will stay in the city, opening the door for retirement.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the footballer is eager to stay in Madrid with his family and has recently started to really examine this option.

He would then be faced with a difficult choice: either he would need to find a new club close enough to the city, or he will have to call it quits on a career that had him regarded among the best to play the game in Europe before joining Real.

Real Madrid CF and Eden Hazard have come to an agreement whereby the player would be released from the club as of June 30, 2023, according to a statement on the team’s website.

“Eden Hazard has played for our club for four seasons during which he has won eight trophies, including two league titles, a Copa del Rey, a European Cup, a Club World Cup, and two Spanish Super Cups.

“Real Madrid wishes Eden Hazard and his entire family the best of luck in this new stage,” the club said in a statement.

The player’s desire to play football is said to have waned during his time at Real, and it is believed that he has been considering retirement for some time.
