Following his unexpected change of heart, President William Ruto deceived UN delegates on Climate Change.
According to Kenyan negotiators at the 2023 Bonn UN Climate Change Conference, SB 58 in Germany, and delegates at the ongoing five-day UN Habitat Assembly in Nairobi, Ruto’s new position and abrupt change of tone on loss and damages, adaptation, and fossil fuels has left them perplexed.
The African Group of Negotiators (AGN) officials said that Ruto has altered his tune from what was agreed upon at last year’s UN Climate Change Conference meeting (COP27) in Egypt.
According to them, Ruto has reversed his position and is now speaking out against the AGN plan.
One negotiator admitted that Ruto told them on Sunday that he does not want to hear about loss and damages and that Kenya will no longer participate in climate discussions.
This is despite Ruto’s stern stance on fossil fuels in Egypt, where he pledged to lead by embracing clean energy in the future.
