Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga and his allies dodged justice despite wreaking havoc throughout the country, according to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Gachagua confessed that crushing Mungiki will be difficult during a gathering of Rift Valley leaders and other stakeholders on eradicating illegal brew and drug usage.

He said that it was difficult to crack down on criminal gangs such as Mungiki because they were aided by senior police officers in the region.

“People from this criminal gang were causing havoc at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters the other day.”

“Instead of taking people arrested for causing chaos, the officer took a bribe and released them,” remarked the Deputy President.

Gachagua stated that in order to simplify the security sector, the administration would take action against corrupt officers.

“We cannot continue to live with such officers. “In which country does a station commander have the authority to do whatever he wants?” he joked.

The DP stated that the National Security Council had agreed that corrupt personnel would be dismissed of their duties rather than reassigned.

“The station commander is the focal point of police operations.” The station commander is at the center of everything.”

“A police station is only as efficient, corrupt, or rotten as its commander,” the DP observed.

At the same time, Gachagua blamed former President Uhuru Kenyatta for Mungiki’s rise.

He did, however, warn that President William Ruto’s administration will not allow Mungiki to regroup.
