Rigathi Gachagua, Deputy President, has acknowledged that he was an alcoholic before being redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
Gachagua, who presided over a conference on eradicating drunkenness and drug misuse in the Rift Valley region on Monday, said he had since stopped drinking after becoming a born-again Christian.
“Neither the President, [Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure] Kindiki, nor the rest of us have an alcohol problem.” “I must admit that I used to drink a lot before I got saved, and my things have been very good since I stopped drinking,” Gachagua remarked.
He went on to declare that quitting alcohol improved his life and pushed others to do the same, saying, “That is how I became deputy president.” I invite individuals who drink to think about quitting, and maybe things will get better.”
At the same time, the vice president placed law enforcement officers on notice, accusing them of supporting the menace by seeking bribes and operating drinking establishments.
“We are very pleased with the police officers who are doing an excellent job, but we have a serious problem with a few of them who have a conflict of interest and have opened bars in the communities where they serve.”
“We have a problem with a few officers who are collecting protection fees; police officers who are supposed to arrest drunkards, but they are even more drunk,” Gachagua explained.
