President William Ruto’s contentious housing plan has taken a new twist.

This comes after National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro reversed his support for Ruto’s planned housing charge.

The South Mugirango MP retracted his earlier statement, maintaining that the law would be enacted without revisions by Parliament.

During an interview, Osoro, one of Ruto’s trusted lieutenants in Parliament, stated that the National Assembly would amend the contentious measure after hearing from stakeholders.

“It is correct that I stated that the law will pass without modifications. “My job as a majority whip is to push for the business of the house,” the MP said.

He explained that after careful study, it was decided that revisions to the proposal will be made in response to public feedback.

“When I speak in the National Assembly, I speak on the government’s behalf.” The Housing Bill is a well-thought-out concept, but we are still gathering feedback from all parties.”

“The bill is not set in stone, so we will amend it based on stakeholder proposals,” he said.

Osoro went on to say that the government’s proposed 3% housing levy and new taxes in the Finance Bill 2023 were subject to scrutiny.

“That is why there is a public participation process.” “We will sit down and review and amend as necessary,” he told Kenyans.

Osoro’s change of heart came a day after Ruto declared that his housing fee is inexorable and that 3% of every worker’s monthly wage must be withheld to fund the housing project.
