Cleophas Malala, the secretary general of the United Democratic Alliance, attacked the politicians in Azimio, calling them hypocrites who pose as public defenders while advancing their own agendas.
A clearly upset Malala attacked Kakamega Deputy-Governor Ayub Savula during the funeral of veteran politician Joseph Hamisi, alleging that Savula had called him and asked to join the government in advance of the 2027 General Election.
He questioned why, when they go to the State House, the lawmakers from Azimio don’t face President William Ruto.
“The fact of the matter is that none of you confront William Ruto about this when you visit the State House. These are only things you say during gatherings and funerals.
“I was with the president on Friday when Ayub Savula called and asked to run for office with the government. Regarding taxes, you made no reference. We’ll treat the president with the same contempt you will. Malala retorted, “I shall call you names.
Savula, on the other hand, has argued in favor of making the housing fund a choice rather than an obligation.
“For instance, supposing a teacher built his own house and developed his own plans; you want to charge him 3%. To what end? He questioned.
Malala also brushed off Seth Panyako’s resignation as UDA vice chairperson due to the housing fund scandal, calling him a non-entity.
Malala asserts that Panyako’s resignation came out of nowhere and that he was not even considered by the UDA leadership.
Panyako, who left UDA at the same funeral, said his decision was motivated by his desire to support Kenyans.
He insisted that his only choice was to leave the ruling party.
