Another setback in President William Ruto’s efforts to improve the nation’s food security has occurred.

This comes after the court categorically rejected the introduction of goods containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs) into the nation.

An application by the government to import GMO foods was rejected by a three-judge panel.

The application lacked merit, according to Justices Mohammed Warsame, Ali Aroni, and John Mativo, and the public interest test had not been satisfied.

The court stated, “We see nothing for the court to preserve and it cannot be said that the appeal’s foundation will be eroded.”

The decision currently means that the government is forbidden from importing or distributing genetically modified (GMO) food items until a case brought by the Kenyan Peasants League, a social movement, is heard and determined by the high court.

The adoption of biotechnology involving the use of GMOs will considerably help to address the issues facing the country in terms of food security, according to the argument made by Ruto’s administration before the Court of Appeal. This is because it will reduce the cost of raw materials for the animal feed industry.

a claim that was refuted on the grounds that the public was not involved.

The state stated that if the orders are not given, the appeal will be useless because the starving and hungry people of Kenya will suffer immensely.

Those opposed to GMO foods include the opposition, which is led by Azimio Leader Raila Odinga.
