The former prime minister Raila Odinga and president William Ruto’s negotiations have been put on hold.

This follows the bipartisan negotiations when Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza demonstrated a lack of commitment.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna said in a statement that Raila’s Azimio terminated the cross-party negotiations after the committees failed to reach consensus on four essential objectives.

The Azimio team’s inability to persuade its Kenya Kwanza peers to consent to the terms of participation led to the suspension.

They disagreed on a number of matters, such as lowering the price of unga, maintaining the election servers, postponing the IEBC’s reconstitution, and getting the Ruto administration to quit meddling in Jubilee Party operations.

“We were unable to persuade our friends from Kenya Kwanza to agree to some reasonable interim measures, such as lowering the price of unga, maintaining the election servers, suspending IEBC reconstitution, and for them to leave Jubilee alone, so we were forced to put an end to the bipartisan dialogue.

“These, in our opinion, are essential in order to protect the talks’ conclusion. We are hopeful that common sense will win out, said Sifuna, a member of the Azimio nonpartisan committee.

If Ruto’s team did not agree to Azimio’s requests, Raila had threatened to halt the negotiations and reopen the national protests on Monday.

With the talks on hold, Raila can now resume his weekly protests, which might make matters worse for Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza administration.
