Justina Wamae, a former vice presidential candidate for the Roots Party, has commented on the Finance Bill 2023.

A number of new taxes are proposed in the government-sponsored Finance Bill 2023 to be levied on Kenyans in the fiscal year 2023–2024.

Wamae commented on the Bill and encouraged the administration of President William Ruto to consider Kenyans before raising taxes.

Wamae asserted that Ruto’s promised discounted fertilizer has yet to materialize in the majority of the nation and that the President is not guiding Kenya in the correct route.

“Is there a soul in the KK Administration? You speak about subsidized fertilizer, which, by the way, is not yet available in the majority of the nation.

“How then can you reclassify fertilizer and pest treatment from zero rates to Exempt VAT supplies in the Finance Bill 2023? Let’s plant katani; it requires no fertilizer, Wamae penned on her Twitter account.

Many Kenyans, notably opposition leader Raila Odinga, have opposed the law because they believe it will add to their already heavy burden of expensive living expenses.
