Samson Cherargei, a senator from Nandi County, has given President William Ruto advice on how to handle former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has declared that he will not leave active politics.

At the Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference on Monday, Uhuru claimed he had intended to retire from active politics but had come to the realization that some party dissidents were pressuring and frightening him into doing so.

Uhuru declared that he will not quit and that he is not a man to be intimidated.

“I had made the decision to leave politics and pursue other interests. I had anticipated coming to let you know that I had done my part and that it was time for new leaders the day we established the NDC.

The delegates cheered as Uhuru added, “But some people have decided to go with threats and intimidation. Today I want to tell them to look for someone else to intimidate, not Uhuru Kenyatta.”

Though the former president has stated he has no intention of retiring, Cherargei asked Ruto to halt or withhold Uhuru’s retirement payout in a comment made on social media on Monday.

I paid close attention to Uhuru’s speech at the Jubilee NDC and realized that he was still in denial, suffering from selective amnesia, and making ineffective threats against fictitious foes. “Since Uhuru has declared he is not leaving politics, the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act should take effect and stop/withhold all benefits that a retired President is entitled to,” Cherargei wrote on his Twitter page.
