Sheikh Mansour has been named the new vice president of the UAE.

Sheikh Mohamed named the vice president in a statement issued by the official news agency Wam while acting as Head of State.

Mansour bin Zayed, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Presidential Court, was appointed by resolution of the UAE president, with the blessing of the UAE Federal Supreme Council.

The president also appointed his son Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed as Abu Dhabi’s crown prince, a position that traditionally denotes the succession to the presidency. Abu Dhabi is the richest of the UAE’s seven emirates.

Along with holding a number of significant positions in business and with Abu Dhabi’s wealth funds, Sheikh Mansour has held the positions of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court.

Following the passing of his half-brother Sheikh Khalifa in May of last year, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed was appointed president.
