After a 14-year-old child committed suicide after being sent home to pay his fees, the police in Embu opened an inquiry.

At Kiriari Primary School in Kigumo Village, Dickson Mwenda, a candidate for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam this year, found his mother caring for his other siblings when he got home from school.

Nelson Muturi, the area leader, claimed that he entered the room after telling his mother why he was there.

Mwenda’s mother asked for him to come out so they could return to his school together after taking care of his siblings, but he was not answering.

When she went into the room, she was shocked to see her son’s body hanging from the house’s roof.

The woman then sounded an alarm, drawing the neighbors’ attention.

The youngster was described as obedient by one Reverend Robert Nyaga, who was among the villagers who attended to the woman’s distress cries, and who added that the occurrence was unfortunate.

As police investigations continue, the boy’s body was transferred to the mortuary at Embu Level 5 Hospital.
