Three children were killed in a school shooting at Nashville’s Covenant School, a private Christian school.

On Monday, March 27, the fire department rushed to the scene, and the shooter, who opened fire at the Covenant School and Covenant Presbyterian Church, was also killed, according to police in a statement.

Peyton Kennedy, a local WKRN news reporter, had earlier reported that at least four people had been killed, including the shooter.

“An active shooter event has occurred at Covenant School, Covenant Presbyterian Church, on Burton Hills Dr.,” the Metro Nashville Police Department said in a tweet.

“The shooter was apprehended and killed by MNPD.” Woodmont Baptist Church, 2100 Woodmont Blvd., is where students and parents can be reunited.”

“We are responding to an active aggressor at 33 Burton Hills Blvd Covenant School,” the Nashville Fire Department tweeted.

“We can confirm that we have several patients.” At this time, parents visiting the school should go to 20 Burton Hills. This is a lively scene.”

A spokesperson for Vanderbilt University Medical Center confirmed that three pediatric patients with gunshot wounds were transported to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

The hospital pronounced all three dead upon their arrival.

Students were led out of the school in a line, each with their hands on the shoulders of the person in front of them, as police responded to the attack.

“Sadly, Nashville has today joined the communities that have experienced a school shooting,” said Mayoral candidate Freddie O’Connell.

“For the time being, my focus is on supporting the affected families and revisiting our efforts to prevent these heinous scenarios.”

The Covenant School has about 200 students from preschool to sixth grade.
