NARC-Kenya Leader Martha Karua has chastised Police Inspector General Japhet Koome for declaring that Azimio la Umoja’s planned protests are illegal.
During a church service at the Jesus Teaching Ministry yesterday, Karua urged Kenyans to turn out in large numbers for today’s protests because they are legally protected.
“No harm will come to any of us or the demonstrators.” “We will march peacefully, as our constitution requires, and we will not listen to any message intended to set us back,” she said.
Karua told IG Koome that it is not the police’s responsibility to grant permission for demonstrations.
“You will follow the constitution in the same way that we do.” “The constitution does not state that we seek permission to demonstrate; it simply states that we give notice,” Karua explained.
“We have not requested permission; permission is protected by the constitution.” Stop interfering with our peaceful protests. “You will be cursed if you cause unrest,” she added.
The Narc-Kenya party leader went on to challenge the IG to arrest her during protests if the demonstrations are legal at all.
“You said you could handcuff us tomorrow; come handcuff me.” Tomorrow will be your day to handcuff me correctly. But there will come a time when you will be handcuffed for your mistakes. “You will be punished in accordance with the constitution,” Karua said, adding that she had survived threats from the Moi regime and would not be intimidated today.
