Former Head of Public Service JOSEPH KINYUA lands a lucrative job after declining RUTO’s offer to help stabilize the country

Joseph Kinyua, a former Head of Public Service, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Kenya Commercial Bank Group PLC.

He refused President William Ruto’s request to rehire him to train his successor, Felix Koskei.

Ruto is said to have wanted Kinyua to assist him in reestablishing order in the country after Koskei allegedly messed things up.

Kinyua will begin serving on the Board on March 24, according to a statement issued by KCB’s secretary, Bonnie Okumu.

One of the reasons Kinyua was appointed to the position was his 44 years of public service.

“Among other initiatives, he has a wealth of experience in implementing key government initiatives and reforms, including the liberalization of the banking sector, the foreign exchange market, and the trade and capital accounts of the balance of payments,” according to the statement.

Kinyua had a distinguished career in the public sector spanning more than 40 years.

During his four decades of service, he briefly served Kenya’s four presidents: Daniel Moi, Mwai Kibaki, Uhuru Kenyatta, and William Ruto.

He was Uhuru’s Head of Public Service from 2013 until October 27, 2022, when he retired.

He was appointed permanent secretary in 2002, just months before Moi retired.
