On Thursday, March 23, 2023, the Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Court sentenced Ubregbo Parmer, a 51-year-old utility officer, to life imprisonment for defiling his female colleague’s 9-year-old daughter.
The convict committed the crime on December 10, 2019, inside his Lagos office.
Justice Abiola Soladoye ruled that the prosecution had sufficiently proven the convict’s defilement charge.
“The evidence of the prosecution witnesses established the elements of the offense against the defendant, who was correctly identified by the survivor.”
“The survivor provided a vivid and gory account of her ordeal at the hands of the defendant,” the judge stated.
“I hereby find him guilty as charged of the single count of defilement and sentence him to life imprisonment.” “The defendant’s name should be entered into the Lagos state sexual offence register,” the judge added.
The survivor’s mother was also chastised by the judge for being negligent in her care and allowing her child to be taken away by her male colleague without supervision.
“The importance of proper and good parenting cannot be overstated in this day and age, when defilement and rape are the norm.” “Parents must be aware of their responsibilities,” the judge stated.
During the trial, the state’s counsel, Olufunke Adegoke, presented two witnesses and two exhibits, while the defendant was the sole witness.
According to Ms Adegoke, the survivor’s mother brought her daughter to the office and left her to attend to other matters when the convict quickly removed her pant and had sexual intercourse with her.
