Rigathi Gachagua, Deputy President, has challenged Azimio leader Raila Odinga to lead his mass action on Monday, saying they are ready for him.

Gachagua detailed the police plan to counter Raila Odinga’s protests in a statement to Kenyans, ensuring that no one is injured.

President William Ruto’s government, according to Gachagua, will deploy enough security within the Central Business District (CBD) on Monday to allow Kenyans to go to work and open their businesses despite the protests.

He stated that the police will protect businesses and property throughout the CBD as they thwart potential violence.

The DP also reassured Kenyans of their safety, urging city dwellers to go about their daily lives as usual.

“Kenyans should disregard those protest calls and go about their business as usual; security agencies will provide security to ensure that hardworking and peaceful Kenyans are not disturbed and distracted.”

“It is extremely unpatriotic, irresponsible, and immoral for any leader to call for demonstrations when the Government is working tirelessly to stabilize the economy,” the statement said in part.

Furthermore, he stated that the government was working hard to reassure investors that Kenya was a peaceful country.

As a result, any disruptions will be met with the full force of the law.

Police sources, on the other hand, have indicated that a number of elite squads, such as the General Service Police Unit (GSU), will be deployed for the demonstrations.

The police were also said to be using intelligence reports to map out areas where there would be violence in order to thwart Azimio’s plans.
