In South Africa, a police officer has been arrested in connection with the murder of his estranged wife and a 30-year-old man said to be her lover.
According to reports, the warrant officer discovered his wife and the alleged lover having sex at a friend’s apartment and gunned them down.
Lizzy Suping, a spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate, stated that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening, March 14, 2023, at iKageleng in Zeerust, North West province.
Suping stated that the warrant officer, who is assigned to the Nietverdiend SAPS in Zeerust, surrendered to police on Wednesday.
Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, a police spokesperson, said the off-duty officer went to a house in Sandvlakte and allegedly fired several shots, instantly killing a 30-year-old man and his wife, who is also a police officer stationed at the Kopfontein Port of Entry.
“Following the incident, the suspect surrendered to police, and the firearm allegedly used in the commission of the crime was confiscated. “There is no known motive for the crime, and investigations are ongoing,” he said.
Lieutenant Sello Kwena, the provincial police commissioner, condemned the incident and urged employees to use the Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) program and professionals rather than resorting to violence.
The officer was identified as Mmutle in photos posted on Facebook.
