The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has urged President William Ruto to contact opposition leader Raila Odinga, who is organising a March 20th protest.

In a statement to the media on Tuesday, NCCK stated that Raila’s planned mass action will polarize the country and that the President of State has a responsibility to unite the country by engaging in talks with opposition leaders.

“As a symbol of national unity, Your Excellency (Ruto), we ask you to concentrate the nation’s attention on the oneness, equity, and equality of all Kenyans,” NCCK added.

“It is critical that you take the lead in reaching out to the opposition in order to promote discourse for the welfare of the nation, as the difficulties we face as a nation necessitate national conversations rather than antagonistic politics.”

Religious leaders also advised Raila Odinga to take a problem-solving approach or face being labeled as a supporter of chaos and mass catastrophe.
